    • Merlin Entertainments plc

      Nov 2014 - now

As the Manager of this fantastic charity, my responsibility is to make sure that we provide magical experiences to as many children facing challenges of serious illness, disability and adversity as possible. We have 3 main charitable objectives to focus on: Magical Days Out where eligible families can enjoy a free day out to a Merlin attraction; Magic on Tour where talented and dedicated Merlin staff take the magic of Merlin to those less able to travel; and Magic Spaces, where we work with attraction teams to design and create amazing projects in hospitals, orphanages, learning centres and more all around the world. My tasks include overseeing governance compliance, financial robustness and sustainable delivery of our charitable objectives. This involves budget holder duties, managing a global team of 6 as well as a wider network of Charity Champions to deliver these magical experiences, developing communications, fundraising and operational strategies, managing the reputation of the charity and overseeing external reporting. Show less I was the Graduate Programme Advisor for the global Accelerate Graduate Programme at Merlin Entertainments. I looked after the recruitment, development and welfare of graduates and alumni all over the world and one of my favourite parts of my role was helping talented people reach their career potential and becoming future leaders of a fantastic company which is Europe's largest (and the world's second-largest) entertainments company. During this role I was studying towards my CIPD Level 5 Certificate (Intermediate) in Human Resource Management. Show less

    • Association of Speakers Clubs

      Sept 2019 - Sept 2020
      Club President

I was responsible for the successful running of Dorset Speakers Club (DSC) meetings bi-monthly from September through to the following May, communicating information from the national Association to all club members, and working with our Club secretary, treasurer, vice president and education director to ensure the smooth operational running of the club. I originally joined the DSC to improve my own speaking confidence after identifying a personal need for development in that area. I was a club member for the first year, elected to vice president for the second year and then to club president for my third year, becoming one of the youngest presidents the ASC has had. I have used my charity experience of managing a team and my HR experience of personal development to add value to this club president role, which I completed diligently and on a voluntary basis. I have not missed a single meeting during this role and took the opportunity to hijack our first meeting back after the New Year to set out our 2020 strategy and run some skills workshops to target the areas in which members had provided feedback about and required improvement. I enjoyed this role and the opportunity that it provided to connect with my local community, but above all it has completely enabled me to practice and achieve speaking confidence following years of presentation nerves. Proud is an understatement. Show less

      Apr 2020 - Jul 2020
      Community Volunteer

During the 2020 covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown imposed by the UK government, my team and I were placed on furlough leave. I registered with the local council and let them know I was available to volunteer at any time of day, for any sort of work that was required to support vulnerable people in our community. I completed weekly food shops for an elderly couple who were shielding right up until the day before I came back to work. I really enjoyed doing something useful and would recommend it to anyone who is still furloughed. Show less
