      I was appointed to assist the Minister in the preparation of a white paper on Small Business Development in Barbados. The paper informed and led to the successful passing of the Small Business Development Act. As senior business development officer, my main responsibilities included:• Undertaking extensive research on the small and medium enterprise sector in Barbados.• Making recommendations on the development of the micro-enterprise sector as requiring targeted support• Representing the Ministry on a working group with other line ministries and departments to look at innovations in the Small and Medium Enterprise sector• Briefing the Cabinet Minister about activities taking place in the Small Business sector and how it can be repositioned to be regionally and globally competitive• Liaising with other Government ministries and regional (CARICOM) and international organisations on matters relating to the small and medium enterprise sector• Preparing project proposals for policy initiatives geared towards the development of the small business sector Show less

      The Caribbean Child Support Initiative (CCSI) was a ten year multidimensional programme funded by the BvLF focused on: (1) Knowledge Building and Application, (2) Practice through community interventions and (3) Communications and Policy AdvocacyMy responsibilities included:•Liaising with government institutions, international agencies, international and local NGOs and donor/development partners •Ensuring efficient and strategic use of all resources within the programme.•Developing and managing a supportive and motivating work environment for a team of four (4) professional and support staff•Monitoring all aspects of the financial management for the programme, including the submission of budget forecasts and financial reports to BvLF and other partners, ensuring adherence to approved budget limits and reporting requirements•Providing management oversight to the start up and implmentation of pilot projects and the provision of technical assistance in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, Belize, Suriname, Tobago and Jamaica•Providing management support and oversight to nine (9) country and regional project coordinators•Managing an average of ten consultants annually, engaged for both short and long-term consultancies•In collaboration with technical teams, implementing sound monitoring and evaluations systems for projects/programmes, including developing indicators and realistic benchmarks/milestones•Leading the various country teams in regular programme reviews in line with each (country-specific) work programme and the overall CCSI regional strategic plan•Leading CCSI team members in annual self-review exercises and quarterly individual performance reviews•Ensuring the production of high-quality programme reports and other documentation for regional and international dissemination• Managing a strategic advocacy and communications agenda based on CCSI’s regional outreach at both micro and macro levels, networking and partnerships Show less
