    • STOP AIDS NOW! University of Amsterdam

      Jan 2013 - Jul 2013
      Researcher

My master research was focussed on the widely used development approach participatory development in a small scaled SRHR (sexual reproductive health rights) organization in Harare (Zimbabwe). This research was conducted for the University of Amsterdam and STOP AIDS NOW! and included three months of fieldwork, 25 in-depth interviews and three focus group discussions. I argued that by analyzing the process of participation in a community based organization important information can be found, such as why are participants included in a project? What are the reasons for participants to participate? What are reasons not to participate? Who is included and who is excluded? Are there differences between the perspectives and experiences of participants and proffesionals? By analyzing the participation process an organization can adjust their strategies, create new roles for participants and learn more about the needs and issues of participants that were excluded before the research. Moreover organizations can understand why some people from their target group do not want to participate and respond to these reasons. Show less
