While working with the team of surgeons, residents and medical students perform admission history and physicals, write daily progress notes and orders, discharge planning, and dictation of discharge summaries for all general surgical inpatients in the ICU and medical/surgical hospital floors. I have completed training as a Surgical First Assist and certified in the daVinci Robotic Surgical System. Additional responsibilities include surgical first assisting in the operating room and responding to medical issues, codes on the floors and trauma alerts called in the ED. In addition to the clinical aspect of my position, I have been responsible for orienting, training and managing daily operations, including workflow and work schedules, for the general surgery advanced providers. I also assist in coordinating surgical resident’s rotations through our facility to ensure efficient and effective collaboration within the team. I am involved in the development of educational materials for both patients and students on the surgical team, development of protocols and standard orders for general surgical patients, a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and an active member of the Surgical Care Improvement. I have been appointed site coordinator at Cape Cod Hospital for the PA program at Tufts Medical School in Boston, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy PA program as well as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program for the University of New England in Maine.
