  I was a birthday party planner and assisted in running weekly events ranging from 15 to 25 kids.   Summer intern

  As part of the UN Youth Corp Georgetown RISE internship, I spent my summer interning at Tidelands Health. I assisted Tidelands in providing over 10,000 Covid-19 tests in less than three months. I worked with a colleague to establish a fresh produce farmers market in Georgetown that accepts SNAP and WIC benefits, allowing community members to double the amount of produce they can purchase for the same price. I also helped Tidelands Community Care with their weekly Diabetes Prevention Program meetings, monthly Positive Parent Programs, and much more. For each of these activities I made recommendations for Tidelands on how to keep their hospitals, community centers, and Georgetown County as a whole sustainable through its development. Show less

  The Ifih1 gene plays an important role in innate immunity. We have shown this gene is expressed in Xenopus laevis (African clawed frog) oocytes. Using cloning experiments, we have begun the characterization of this gene and its role in early development. After isolating oocytes from mature specimens and determining viability, we isolated total mRNA, and performed reverse transcription. Using the predicted sequences for Ifih1 we amplified the gene sequence using PCR. We plan to clone this into an expression vector for further characterization. Show less
