    • HealthCorps

      Sept 2012 - Jun 2014
      Coordinator

Working towards a healthier generation, I taught high school students about mental resiliency, nutrition and physical activity. The aim was to educate students and provide a holistic and relevant view of the role health plays in their lives. Together with the HealthCorps organization and Anderson New Technology High School, I organized events and programs to raise health awareness, for the entire school and community. In addition to working to create a culture of wellness for the students, I lead challenges and programs for the school staff. To increase impact I partnered with local organizations for various events and programs, such as applying for a grant to install a water bottle filling station. Show less

    • Active Wellness LLC

      Sept 2014 - Dec 2018
      Group Fitness Instructor

Led a boot-camp class for employees at Blue Shield of California, after work, twice per week from September, 2014 through December, 2016. I now serve as a substitute and teach a few classes each quarter. As a fitness instructor I enjoy instructing and motivating participants in the group in activities that include cardiovascular, strength training, stretching and balance exercises. I work with people of all ages and skill levels. During the class I demonstrate modifications of each exercise to appeal to where people are currently at with their fitness level. I believe wellness is holistic. One practice I have adopted to engage mental and emotional well-being is including mindfulness into each class by finishing with a gratitude activity. Show less

    • Shasta Community Health Center

      Nov 2014 - Jul 2020

My time as the Patient Education and Health Promotion Manager was shorter than I had anticipated due to the birth of my son, which led to the decision to move closer to family. I enjoyed the position and made the most of my time in the role, managing a team of six. I directed and participated in the development of health education, promotion, covered California and outreach services, employee wellness, as well as promotional & educational materials to encourage healthy behavior, and improve patient access. I oversaw the department budget, grant management, and reporting. I collaborated within and outside of Shasta Community Health Center, working with community work-groups, the Quality Improvement team, Behavioral Health, Clinical Teams, among others. I served as a Health Coach for Patients who needed support managing chronic health conditions and meeting health goals, primarily Spanish speaking patients with the assistance of an interpreter. Show less As a Patient Educator at Shasta Community Health Center (SCHC) I served as a Health Educator, Health Coach, and Employee Wellness Coordinator. Working closely with the Patient Education and Health Promotion Manager and team, I was able to assess needs and interests, develop, promote, and facilitate programs and classes for patient and employees. One of my biggest contributions was leading a project to develop a brochure ordering system for our exam room and patient education resources for the clinic that were appropriate for our patient population following health literacy and plain language laws. Through this experience I gained skills in social marketing and design. Other programs I am proud to have led a team to develop are a Community Youth Cooking Camp and the Employee Wellness Program at SCHC. I am passionate about helping people gain access to healthcare and reach their health goals. Show less
