  As a maritime trials officer, I form part of an organisation that is embedded in acquisition and the wider support community of the Royal Navy and UK trade and industry. In this role, I provide safety and assurance acceptance by means of trials on UK ships, submarines and weapon systems. By adhering to DEFSTANS and Health & Safety legislation, I am empowered to ensure that my organisation is operating safe and operationally safe – meaning equipment is installed and meets safety standards, and once cleared for use, it is safe to operate. This role requires me to liaise with multiple stakeholders and demonstrate patience and effective and diplomatic communication. This role also requires me to maximise my technical expertise in determining whether equipment has met the standard or requires further action. When a trial is completed, I produce a trials report which is reviewed by senior officers before release, where I could be required to justify my rulings.
