      PhD Student

During my Ph.D. I studied generation and alteration of atmospheric aerosol using stable isotopes. My Ph.D. was funded by a scholarship from the European Commission's Marie Curie Program as part of the InTraMIF graduate school.

My current project aims at developing air cleaning solutions for the agricultural sector. Common issues here include odour nuisances and environmental damage caused by farm emissions, waste water treatment plants and biogas facilities. My aim is to use gas phase advanced oxidation coupled with other air cleaning methods to reduce concentrations of unwanted compounds before they even get emitted. In my current position I also happen to supervise a number of students during their BSc and MSc projects. I also give a lecture here and there. Both - supervising students and teaching - are unique university activities that I enjoy very much. This crossroad of market-driven business, hands-on engineering, and academic knowledge is a ‘sweet spot’ of innovation that provides great inspiration to my daily work. My aim is to develop novel pollution treatment ideas into market-ready solutions for applications in the agricultural sector (e.g. NH3 emissions from pig farms), the metal industry (e.g. benzene emissions from foundries), and car manufacturing (e.g. volatile organic compound emissions from paint shops). On-going collaborations include partners like Aarhus University, Infuser and Agrifarm in Denmark and extend abroad in countries like Sweden and Germany. My current teaching includes selected lectures in Sustainable Chemistry and Atmospheric Environmental Chemistry, and the supervision of M.Sc. and B.Sc. students. Teaching students skills in atmospheric science via solving ‘real-world problems’ is a highly rewarding new facet to university engagement. Show less

As Head of Product Development I was integral in bringing the airbubbl to life - Airlabs' very first product. The job requires a deep understanding of state-of-the-art techniques in pollution detection and control and how they can be implemented in consumer products. Converting ideas and concepts into real designs is the next step, followed by prototyping and testing in our labs. Finally my job takes me regularly to suppliers to enforce our high quality standards and to make sure the final products are exactly as we have intended them in first place. Show less At Airlabs, my work focuses on three things: 1) Everything that happens in the laboratory. This includes for example testing materials, developing testing protocols, verifying supplier information, laboratory management and product testing & quality control. 2) I help translating our passion for empowering people to have access to clean air into real products. To do so, I am leading our development of consumer units, including our first product the Airbubbl. 3) Firefighting. Like everyone in our team, I jump to help wherever I am needed. This includes installing air cleaners in London and Trondheim, meeting with clients like The Body Shop and JC Decaux, or helping coordinating projects with the University of Copenhagen, besides many other tasks.
