It also provided me with the opportunity to attain FELASA certification (category-C) which validates my ability to humanely handle laboratory animals for ethical research purposes. My thesis, in the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology (Vaxinfectio), characterizes the effects of inter-species interactions on their resulting biofilm development among bacterial clinical isolates from endotracheal tubes. More specifically, these clinical isolates represent bacterial pathogens commonly linked to ventilator-associated pneumonia. This fundamental research aims to understand the factors that cause bacteria to attach onto medical devices, and these factors may also apply to other environments associated with unwanted biofilm development.I am now confident in a laboratory setting, and I look forward to applying this knowledge and experience towards my future endeavors.
