  Solved the conundrum of predicting lifetime of engine components under thermo-mechanical cyclic loading. The bulk behaviour of the material and the crack-growth in the material were analyzed for the lifetime prediction. This approach is now routinely used at DAF for lifetime prediction of diesel-engine components. The work was greatly benefitted by my interpersonal and communication skills which helped me maintain a good collaboration with the individuals from the organizations participating in the project, i.e. DAF Trucks N.V, Delft University of Technology and Georg Fischer Foundry. The permanency technique was tested on all the commonly used paper and plastic-based packaging materials.
