    • Broese

      Sept 2019 - Oct 2021
      Sales Assistant at Bookstore

I have worked as a sales assistant for over two years at Broese, the largest and oldest bookstore in the city centre of Utrecht. My tasks included working at the cash register, processing large shipments of books, assisting and advising customers as well as overseeing and tidying the store. During my time at Broese, I have acquired many skills, including working under pressure both individually and as part of a team, managing individual sections within a larger store, and helping customers in a hospitable and obliging manner. Additionally, I have gained much insight into the workings of the literary field, including the relationship between publishing house and bookseller, the promotion of different types of literary and non-literary works and everything that goes into positioning and managing an independent bookstore in an age in which the value and place of literature in an increasingly digitized and fast-paced society are continually questioned.
