Through regular interaction my course gave me an insight into the powerful impact coaching can have on people of all physical abilities. Along with understanding an athlete's psychological and physiological attributes, I acquired the leadership, communication and reflective skills needed for this growing profession. The course was developed to complement the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate requirements, so that I would be equipped with the know-how and expertise required to work as a multi-skilled, multi-sport coach. Get Yourself Active Coordinator

I worked at LCiL as a Get Yourself Active Regional Coordinator. LCiL is a disabled people’s user led organisations run based on the ‘social model of disability’. They provide a range of trading services which support the core aims of the charity to empower disabled people to live independent lives.I manages the Get Yourself Active project which is funded by Sport England and coordinated by Disability Rights UK. The project aimed to get disabled people aged 14+ more involved in regular physical activity. The role involved working closely with Health and Social care professionals to support disabled people to access a sport or leisure opportunity in their local community.Over the course of the project I built and maintained strong, effective working relationships with key strategic partners, including County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) and Leisure providers enabling GYA to achieve its objectives. The project shared our knowledge on insight, information and resources to support key strategic partners in improving the way sport and active recreation is planned, managed and delivered in their organisation.
