During my second and third years, I leant towards specialising within the sociology of media with a focus on social and digital media. I also undertook several research projects both independently and group-based, such as exploring links between social class and smoking habits and the impact of sports group initiations on players - receiving a 2:1 or higher grade on all projects undertook.These modules helped guide me to my final year dissertation project, exploring the use of social media by gay men in order to feel part of a 'gay community', utilising classical sociological theory on community, contemporary research on social media, and my own qualitative data that I produced from several interviews.
