    • Al Stober Construction

      Jan 1998 - Jan 2003
      Chief Accountant

I was responsible for the full cycle of accounting for a private construction and commercial/residential property management company including the management of payroll staff.

    • Kelowna General Hospital Foundation

      May 2003 - May 2006
      Accountant/Database Administrator

As the Foundation's only Accountant and Database Administrator I was responsible for all accounting functions including payroll and fund administration and the fundraising database which was linked to the accounting system. Software used was Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge.

    • KIK Enterprises

      Jan 2004 - Dec 2007
      Owner/Consultant

Provided accounting and bookkeeping services to several small and nonprofit clients.

    • Vadim Software

      Dec 2007 - Oct 2011
      Software Support Analyst

Supported a suite of software designed for municipalities with payroll and HR as my area of expertise. I also worked with the modules for utility billing, property management, maintenance management and general ledger when required.

    • QHR Software

      Oct 2011 - Dec 2013
Software Support Analyst/Agile (Scrum) Project Management

I supported professional hospital and medical centre clients in their use of Quadrant HR software for payroll, HR and scheduling. That required both training and troubleshooting skills. The really cool thing about software client support is that I got to be a detective, working with professional clients to unearth and resolve their software issues; each case was different. In late 2013 I also had the opportunity to work on an Agile Scrum project as Scrum Master and learned so much about the Agile process and how it works in real life compared to the standard waterfall development processes. • Joy English Schools

      Jan 2014 - Feb 2015
      English Teacher, Foreign Native Speaker

I taught English to over 200 students between 5 and 16 years of age. This included lesson planning using Joy-specific materials, lesson delivery and sometimes special events. I really loved seeing the way students would catch on to a concept and expand on it!

    • Happy Kids American Preschool

      Aug 2015 - Jul 2016
English Language Teacher, Reception class (3 year-olds) and Grade One

I had a full day class of young learners, all 2- 3 years old. We spent our days on many learning activities such as music and movement, literacy, math and cognitive skills, kitchen fun, songs and games, PE etc. The program is structured on the North American preschool model so does not involve sitting in desks or rote learning. The students all learned to communicate in basic English through the process of having fun instead! My Grade one class was an after school program, but differed from the usual cram school model. It was again run on a North American curriculum which involved listening, speaking, reading and writing, but also special projects, illustration, media learning etc. The students were not given homework or grades, just progress reporting.Happy Kids is an amazing place for a foreign teacher to work in Taipei City!
