      Responsible for a mix of 120 RAF and Royal Navy (RN) engineering technicians for the day to day operation of Merlin Mk 3 and Mk 3A aircraft, my duties and responsibilities consisted of:Maintaining aircraft to ensure airworthiness is assured.Where necessary and appropriate, the deferral of corrective and preventative maintenance, with appropriate limitations, to maximise aircraft availability and maintain operational tempos.Assuming Flight Commander duties.Resource management to ensure the provision of safe, serviceable aircraft.Staffing technical investigation documentation for forward transmission to delegated engineering authorities.Directing Flight Safety investigations and report compilation.Ensuring SHEF compliance through all engineering and workplace practices.Deputising for the Senior Engineering Officer when appointed.Co-ordination of engineering personnel when reacting to major incidents.Ensuring aircraft serviceability reporting was carried out for higher authority scrutiny.Management and maintaining compliance with the Unit Quality System.Implementation of RAF Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policies and initiatives.Ensuring personnel with a liability to deploy on operations are trained, prepared, authorised and maintained at the necessary readiness state.During this post I deployed to Operation HERRICK where I ensured aircraft were available to achieve operational tasking, the recovery of an aircraft from a deployed location that suffered battle damage and conducted several Human Factors investigations using the Maintenance Error Decision Aid process in conjunction with the Defence Aviation Flow Chart Analysis of Investigation Results system, whilst managing the welfare of 56 personnel in my command. I managed the introduction of a new roulement regime of personnel deploying to, and recovering from Afghanistan. Show less Officer Commanding Support Engineering Flight (SEF), made up of 92 Mechanised Transport, Ground Support Equipment, Ground Electrician and Workshop personnel, I was responsible for:The correct control and maintenance of all Ground Support Equipment.The correct maintenance of all Service Military Transport.Ensuring the function of SEF was completed efficiently, ensuring key outputs to support operational commitments.Implementing and controlling SEF's quality arrangements to ensure conformity with RAF Wittering Quality Manual.Ensuring SEF was fully compliant with all SHEF reqruiements in accordance with MOD policy.Carrying out the duties of specialist officer in respect to RAF Trade Groups 5 and 6.Championing Multi-Skilling within Trade Groups 5 and 6.Carrying out the initial investigation and reporting of accidents, faults and failures involving engineering practices and procedures within SEF. Key responsibilities included the oversight and analysis of safety critical data; investigation and resolution of airworthiness related issues and capability development and certification of Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems and advanced GPS navigation systems.
