  My Master's thesis focused on the topic of 'What is the effect of incentives, measured as short-term and long-term compensation, on committing fraudulent actions?'. This research question aimed to explore the relationship between reward structures and fraudulent behavior, and the potential implications for auditors, accountants, and certified public accountants (CPAs). The knowledge and insights gained from this thesis have been instrumental in shaping my career as a CPA, particularly in terms of risk assessment, internal control evaluation, and fraud detection and prevention.I had the privilege of writing my Master's thesis at KPMG, where I was also able to participate in several work-shadowing opportunities. This unique experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into the practical applications of my research, while also providing me with exposure to a wide range of auditing and accounting projects.   As Head of Accounting and Reporting at Normec Group, I gained valuable experience in working collaboratively with individuals from various business areas, including the CFO and financial directors.Some of my key responsibilities in the role included:- Preparing for the financial statement audit, serving as the point of contact for the external auditor, and writing position papers on complex accounting topics for audit evidence. I also conducted conversations with the auditor on difficult subjects and helped the staff at Normec gather audit evidence and reviewed their work before sending it to the auditor.- Creating a new first-year financial statement under IFRS for the newly established entity, which involved accounting for the group's acquisition.- Updating the accounting policies and accounting manual for various topics and writing instructions for the reporting pack that needed to be sent along with all audit evidence at year-end.- Performing internal audits at several group entities and reporting findings to management.- Developing a key control framework and managing its implementation at the entities and explaining the framework to them.- Overseeing the implementation of a new cloud-based solution, Tagetik, which took over consolidation and financial reporting functions. This involved performing data migration, making important decisions about the layout of the reports and accounting, and troubleshooting data migration issues.- Improving the group's tax structure through transfer pricing and consultations with consultants. Overall, my experience at Normec Group provided me with valuable insights into the world of finance and accounting from an entrepreneurial perspective, enabling me to develop strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while working under pressure and managing competing priorities.
