      Registered nurse

I began my NHS career as a nurse on a general medical ward, establishing a solid foundation in ward nursing. After two years I opted to work exclusively as a hospital bank nurse, filling staffing gaps in all divisions and gaining experience in surgical, orthopaedics, plastics, vascular, and older person’s specialties.

I relocated to the Royal United Hospitals, Bath in 2018 to be closer to family. The RUH is a busy district general hospital with an ED that covers both adult and child emergencies. I became the child safeguarding lead in 2020 and dedicate 15 hours per week to the role. This role requires an experienced emergency nurse to review all the paediatric attendances and ensure all safeguarding needs have been addressed. A solid foundation in paediatric care is indispensable in this role, recognising and building upon my additional training. I am required to spend time working with a wider disciplinary team than that of my concurrent clinical role, providing me with a new perspective on both local and national child protection procedures. In July 2021 I strengthened my child safeguarding role by undertaking supervision training with In-Trac and becoming a safeguarding supervisor. The course helped me to understand the core components of good supervision and how these can be used to promote sound practice and improve the performance of staff. I am required to lead group supervision with the ED team at regular intervals; providing guidance in reflective discussion and ensure concerns and queries around safeguarding are treated in a sensitive and constructive way.
