  It was my responsibility to conduct research on waste water treatment generated from textile mills by using physico-chemicval methods and tertiary treatment by using aquatic plants to achieve waste water discharge standards. Several models were tested and found that aquatic plants could be used in ttertiary treatment of textile mill effluents under control conditions.

  The Quality Management System of the CEA was initiated by me in 2020, and implementation of the system is headed to continuing improment of the CEA performance. Responsible for implementation of the National Environmental Act within western province of Sri Lanka Over all implementation of National Environmental Act of Sri Lanka within western province. Discharge permits covering all media, project approval under EIA, environmental promotional programmes, public awareness, litigation and compliance promotion some of the responsibilities. In addition certification of companies under ISO14001 standard in collaboration with Sri Lanka Standard Institute also being conducted.

  Pilisaru National Solid Waste Management Project, Sri Lanka

  Overall responsibility of implementation of the project with the objectives of development of a National Policy and strategy on solid waste management; assist local authorities on implementation of waste management practices; create public awareness on waste management formulate a legal framework for sustainable waste management.The landfills and compost plants developed under the project was supervised for better implementation and increased performance.

  As the. Deputy Director General of the CEA I am responsible for implementing EIA process to consider granting environmental approval for large scale development projects, conservation of environmental sensitive areas of the country and guiding to conduct strategic environmental assessments at national level as well as program and planning levels. While working as Deputy Director-General I am serving to the New South Wales University of Australia for supervision of students projects and Assessments on waste management, develoing new concepts on extended producer responsibility and Polluter-Pays Principle.
