Responsible for administrative and operational leadership, health, and welfare of as many as 45 Soldiers in both garrison and tactical field environments. As a Platoon Sergeant, I have made it my goal to deliver the best possible military experience a Soldier can have and change the paradigm of "Embrace the Suck" in day to day life.Preparation for truly difficult times is not enhanced by unnecessarily occurring during unreasonably difficult times. Sure, sleeping on cold, wet ground when there are warm, dry barracks 5 klicks away builds character, but being treated like a child on 3-day weekend when you have already served for 4-6 or more years and multiple deployments in the US military is not conducive to retention. Toughening occurs in appropriate circumstances, and some of my best memories as a lower enlisted and as a junior Non-Commissioned Officer were sleeping in the dirt, but with leadership I knew I could count on to have my back, filter "good ideas" from higher, and make good decisions. This is something that can be changed at all levels, and must be changed at all levels. Changing that paradigm for tomorrow requires changing the individuals today who will be at the command level tomorrow. Show less
