  Construction Management Phase of the Road to Registration Programme of the Department of Transport and Public Works (Western Cape Government). I was seconded to Haw & Inglis as part of the construction site management team in the Improvement of the Piekenierskloof Pass along National Route 7. I was extensively involved in the earth reinforced retaining walls and haulage of blasted/crush material. My responsibilities were concerned with measurement/quantities for payment certificates, programming and planning, labour relations, health and safety, traffic accommodation, environmental awareness, production monitoring and reporting. I was also responsible for quality control and laboratory testing to ensure that the completed works were completed in accordance with contract specifications for approval and payment. Show less

My tasks included the following: transportation planning, public consultation, geometric road design, stormwater/drainage design, tender documentation, construction details, specifications, and accommodation of traffic strategies.   This work experience is the last stage (Construction Supervision) of the Road to Registration Programme (Western Cape Government: Department of Transport and Public Works) for Professional Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa. I am part of the construction management and supervision team for the Upgrading of Stellenbosch Arterial (MR177) Phase 2 in Blackheath, Cape Town. As the assistant resident engineer (or more formerly assistant engineer's representative) I am responsible for drainage, layerworks, materials and acceptance control aspects of the project. I have also been involved in the assessment of claims, financial planning and estimates, measurement/quantification, accommodation of traffic and liaisons with other service providers. Show less
