The aim of the programme is to provide graduate engineers with engineering and workplace experience which is suitable for professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa. I was seconded to Haw & Inglis as part of the construction site management team in the Improvement of the Piekenierskloof Pass along National Route 7. I was extensively involved in the earth reinforced retaining walls and haulage of blasted/crush material. My responsibilities were concerned with measurement/quantities for payment certificates, programming and planning, labour relations, health and safety, traffic accommodation, environmental awareness, production monitoring and reporting. I was also responsible for quality control and laboratory testing to ensure that the completed works were completed in accordance with contract specifications for approval and payment. Show less
