As a Special Education Science Teacher, I teach 7th graders Life Science and I teach 8th graders Physical Science. Everyday is full of many challenges! I love Middle School and I love my students! Thanks be to God, He has equipped me with oodles of patience, energy, passion, spontaneity, and creativity! My mission statement: "To care for and teach my students with humanity and sensitivity as developing human beings worthy of being taught with genuine respect, enlightened discipline, and imaginative flair."I am a long-(really long!)-term substitute teacher. I have taken on an assignment in a very challenging situation: teaching science to Special Education students, many of whom are immigrants or children of immigrants (English Language Learners) in low-income area in a Priority school. In just one quarter, five.....five!.....teachers came, tried it for a week or two, and QUIT on these students before I was asked to take on this challenge. I haven't quit on them! I love them! I have built a safe and structured learning community which allows for individuality, flexibility, and spontaneity......fun and learning!.....and my students are doing great!Just one rule in my classroom: Have fun and learn while contributing positively to our learning community. (Is what you are doing contributing positively to our learning community? You decide. If it is not, please stop and conduct yourself in a way that is!) Simple and beautiful...beautifully simple!! Though I am already a working SPED teacher, I am also working to achieve my SPED Certification and License at the University of Hawai'i. Teaching (which includes creating lesson plans) and going to school is a challenging balance; thanks be to God for passion, energy, and strength! There are also significant financial challenges; as such, I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. If you would like to help ($10 or $20 helps!!!), please visit GoFundMe.com/sheprays and I will be humbly and eternally grateful! Show less
