  Within seven months of graduating dental school, I was the full owner and operator of my own dental practice, Ashish J. Vashi, DDS, Inc. This general/family, cosmetic, and implant practice was my professional home for 13 years and comprised three operatories and a robust staff that allowed me to provide top-notch care to my patients.Bolstered by the latest technology, equipment, systems, and training, I was able to offer CEREC/porcelain restorations, Invisalign, and Six Month Smiles in addition to endodontic and periodontic procedures, extractions, implants, restorations, and a multitude of appliances.After my purchasing this practice, I worked tirelessly to expand its offerings and in the process doubled office production and profits. I was proud to have built this organization into one whose patients were consistently highly satisfied with their care.In addition to caring for patients, I handled all business functions of the practice, including hiring, building, and developing a team of dedicated professionals who supported me in my endeavors.During this time, I was an active participant in a plethora of dental organizations, holding positions of leadership and influence.   As an Associate Dentist at Dana Point Dental, I serve as a clinical dentist, working to support the dental health of patients, continually earning high rates of approval from patients in terms of quality of work and chairside manner. Serving as a leader in the practice, I have worked to lead and implement new services.I’ve also worked diligently to increase Invisalign cases, and overall, I’ve increased the practice’s daily collections. My initiation of medical insurance billing (in addition to dental insurance billing) has helped to streamline operations. In managing and leading the team in specific areas of the office, I always go above and beyond to further the goals of the office.Among my greatest work in the practice has been the development of a sleep apnea practice within the dental office.   Recognizing that sleep apnea is vastly underdiagnosed and patients are noncompliant when it comes to treatment, I have helped to create a treatment model based on oral appliance therapy, an alternative to CPAP in the treatment of sleep apnea.I developed a system of screening that entails home sleep tests, diagnostics, and careful discernment. Noting that sleep apnea is particularly prevalent in cardiac patients, I developed, created, and engaged a relationship with the San Diego Cardiac Center to truly help make a positive impact on this patient population. I’ve worked to create efficiencies that have reduced timelines of screening, testing, and treatment to just three to four weeks.I’m proud of my work in this field, using my dental skills to create oral appliances that improve the overall health of patients. By creating a process that best identifies sleep apnea patients, we’ve been able to more accurately and efficiently diagnose and treat.My leadership and team building skills are key to my role, as I’ve assembled a team of ENTs, sleep physicians, pulmonologists, and others within the cardiac center to effectively, efficiently, and compassionately test and treat patients.
