      • I was re-elected as a member of the SRC the following year. During this time, I focused on addressing transportation issues for off-campus students. I collaborated with the Off-Campus Residence Council to identify and resolve these issues, ensuring that students had safe and accessible transportation options. During the year, I was offered the position of Deputy President of the SRC. In this role, I served as the chairperson of the SRC disciplinary committee and the SRC Policy Council. I represented students in university disciplinary hearings and led policy reviews to ensure that student rights and concerns were properly addressed. Show less • I gained valuable experience and skills through my various roles as a student leader in university. In my first year, I became a member of the Residence Sub-Committee. I focused on promoting environmental and sustainability initiatives in the residences. I formed a committee that explored ways to implement green practices and raise awareness among students.•In my second year, I was elected as a Residence House Committee member, I took on the responsibility of organising the first-year programme. I introduced two new initiatives aimed at fostering a living and learning culture on campus. The first initiative involved organising trips to other university campuses for first-year students to participate in campus life festivals. This not only encouraged students to explore different campuses but also facilitated networking and cultural exchange. Additionally, I initiated a competition among residences to promote recycling and sustainability practices, contributing to a more eco-friendly community. In addition, I had to review a substantial number of answer sheets to ensure that all questions were correctly marked and that the score on the front cover of the answer sheet correlated with the total for each section.

      • In this role, I was responsible for developing relationships with government officials and advocating for IPYG's initiatives. I attended meetings and presented the organisation's work, highlighting the impact we were making in promoting peace and advocating for youth, peace and security. I also collaborated with my team members to develop strategies for engaging with government stakeholders and identifying opportunities for collaboration.• During my time as the team leader for the Government team, I was able to establish strong connections with key decision-makers and influencers. Through these relationships, I was able to secure support and endorsement for IPYG's initiatives, which helped to increase our visibility and credibility in the peacebuilding and conflict prevention sector.       • As the rapporteur for the session on 'Content and Evolution of the Rules of Interpretation' at the ILA Biennial Conference in Pretoria, my role was to ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting of the session proceedings. • To fulfil this responsibility, I attended the session and took detailed notes on the presentations and discussions conducted by each speaker. I meticulously recorded the key points raised by the speakers, their arguments, and any supporting evidence or examples they provided. • After the session concluded, I compiled the information I gathered into a comprehensive report. This report included an introduction to the session topic, a summary of each speaker's presentation, and an analysis of the overall discussion and outcomes of the session. I ensured that the report was well-structured, organised, and provided an accurate reflection of the session.• The report was then submitted to the ILA President, the chairperson of the session, and other relevant stakeholders. It served as a valuable resource for those who were unable to attend the session and provided a detailed record of the topics and issues discussed during the session. Show less

      • I provided operational and programmatic guidance to the team leaders, offering support and oversight to the International Law Team and the Interfaith Team, which comprised six to eight team members each. These teams worked across 10 Southern African countries.• I received weekly reports and used them to analyse the team's performance. I compared the weekly team goals with the outcomes achieved and conducted weekly meetings with the team leaders to discuss the reports, address any challenges, and provide strategies to improve team performance.• During my time at HWPL, I developed a comprehensive project management guide. This guide detailed the process of planning and executing projects and included templates for drafting project proposals, concept notes, project plans, and design requests.• I was also responsible for drafting the organisation's annual reports for two consecutive years. These reports were shared with partners and affiliate organisations and informed the organisation's plans for the following year. They included visuals and a summary of the programmes and events held throughout the year, as well as information on new affiliate organisations and partner organisations.• During events, I served as the spokesperson and conducted media interviews. I conducted interviews with SABC Radio, SABC TV, Gau TV, and the Cape August.• In 2021, I led a special project in partnership with the African Union Ambassador for Youth, Peace, and Security in Southern Africa. we created a booklet aimed at informing youth in the region about the African Union's Youth, Peace, and Security framework and how young people can get involved.       • I was invited to join a group of seven research writers to contribute to the Youth Civil Society written submission for the Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in South Africa.• As a group, we were responsible for brainstorming, researching and evaluating education-related policies and programmes in South Africa with the view to provide an assessment of what has been done and recommendations of what the SAIIA Youth report should recommend to the South African government as part of its African Peer Review Process 2020/2021.• I was responsible for studying and reviewing the following policies and institutions; the African Union Agenda 2063, South Africa National Development Plan 2030, National Youth Policy, The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2019, Agenda 2030, UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, South Africa 2008 APRM Country Review, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).• The submission highlighted specific legislative instruments and guiding documents on youth development at national, regional and global level that South Africa is committed to, and further details recommendations for consideration by the national government and relevant key stakeholders in better integrating young people at institutional levels and prioritising their participation in the implementation of policies in all government departments, agencies and affiliated public enterprises.       • As the sole Program Specialist in the South Africa Multi-Country Office, my role is to oversee and ensure the successful implementation of all the resettlement programmes in the region. This involves working closely with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other relevant stakeholders to meet and develop operational plans for effective resettlement activities.•I also play a crucial role in developing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders involved in the resettlement process. This includes attending coordination meetings, participating in working groups, and collaborating on joint initiatives to improve the well-being and integration of displaced populations.• Per quarter, I plan and coordinate an average of about twenty-six field projects. The planning for each project involves, preparing projections, conducting inter-departmental meetings to review each project, communicating with partners and stakeholders, and following up with the different departments to ensure that all tasks are completed. • To inform the strategic plans of the country office, I prepare quarterly reports for the Senior Management Team on all projects conducted throughout the region.• I also conduct quarterly operational and technical training for all staff. This is to ensure efficiency and compliance with the organisation’s standard operating procedures, improve quality control and enhance consistency and coordination of all projects in the country office. Show less • As the Program Supervisor, my role was to lead and oversee various field missions/projects in different locations. I worked with a team of up to eight members, and my responsibilities involved ensuring the smooth operation and successful implementation of each project.• I was in charge of coordinating the logistics for the projects. This included making arrangements for transportation, accommodation, and other necessary resources in locations such as Pretoria, Cape Town, Lusaka, Nampula, Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Ruyigi, Bujumbura, and Nairobi. Additionally, I had to ensure that budgets were approved and effectively managed for each project.• Procurement was also an important aspect that fell under my purview. I was responsible for ensuring that the necessary equipment and stationery were procured and available for the project teams. This involved sourcing and purchasing the required items in a timely and cost-effective manner.• In terms of reporting, I prepared daily reports on the progress of each project. These reports provided updates on the activities undertaken, challenges faced, and any notable achievements. At the completion of each project, I produced comprehensive reports that detailed the resources used, the obstacles encountered, and the outcomes achieved. These reports served as important documentation and allowed for reflection and improvement of future projects.• In the office, I ensured compliance with company regulations and standard operating procedures. This involved implementing and enforcing policies such as the code of conduct, non-fraternization with beneficiaries, human trafficking, anti-bullying, and fraud policies. I also conducted training sessions to familiarise staff with these policies and ensure their understanding and adherence. Show less • In this position, I was responsible for assisting the Program Supervisor in the planning and coordination of field projects. This involved providing logistical support and coordination, as well as reviewing the work done by Program Officers. I ensured that the work done by the team adhered to the company's standard operating procedures by performing quality control measures.• During my time in this role, I supported projects in Zambia and Mozambique. I provided guidance and support to thirteen employees, specifically in relation to Resettlement Registration Forms (RRFs) and Registration for Classification and Refugee (i-590) forms.• Additionally, I took on the role of deputy team leader. In this capacity, I supported the team leader in various tasks, such as leading the team, drafting reports, conducting performance reviews, and participating in meetings with external stakeholders.• Overall, I played an integral role in supporting the Program Supervisor and ensuring the successful implementation of field projects. Show less • As the Program Officer, my role was primarily focused on conducting resettlement interviews with beneficiaries to assist them in completing their Registration for Classification as Refugee (i-590) forms. This involved travelling extensively throughout the Southern region, including South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, and Namibia. • Within a team of up to eight members, I was responsible for various tasks related to the implementation of the projects. These tasks included preparing equipment and materials, filing records, setting up worksites, counselling and consulting beneficiaries, and hiring interpreters. • On average, I conducted about forty interviews per field mission, interacting with almost 400 beneficiaries in total. My role in conducting resettlement interviews was particularly significant, as I often conducted the most interviews within the team.• Through my work as a Program Officer, I gained valuable experience in conducting resettlement interviews, working in diverse geographical settings, and collaborating within a team to implement projects. I also developed strong skills in communication, organisation, and problem-solving, which have been beneficial to my professional growth. Show less

      • I was hired by the UN Women, Civil Society Division to produce a report on Youth, Peace and Security in the Southern Africa region. The report served as a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities related to youth, peace, and security in the region. It provided valuable insights and recommendations to guide the policies and programmes of UN Women in supporting young people and advancing sustainable peace and security in the region.• To produce the report, I formed a team with three youth activists. We produced a concept note outlining the content that would be covered in the report. We also drafted consent forms that all participants had to sign, and we also designed posters to promote the project. To reach a wider audience and gather more responses, we created an online survey. This allowed us to collect data from large sample sizes and gather qualitative data to support the qualitative insights gathered from the four expert interviews and two focus groups we held.• We produced a 12-page report. In the report, we identified several major challenges faced by young people in the region. These challenges included high levels of unemployment and lack of economic opportunities, inadequate access to education and skills development, limited participation in decision-making processes, gender-based violence and discrimination, and the impact of armed conflicts and political instability on the overall security of young people.
