      Actor

I began my career as an actor with Triple Action. A highly visual and physical theatre company which under the direction of Steve Rumbelow created modern interpretations of the classics. Work with Triple Action took me world-wide, including working with Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Passe Muraille in Toronto and at Grotowski's Lab in Poland. A great grounding in theatre!

    • Arc Theatre

      Sept 1984 - Jul 2013

I co-founded Arc Theatre with Clifford Oliver in 1984. My primary role was as a theatre director, realiser, actor trainer and lead on Arc's strategic and artistic development. During my years at Arc we developed a reputation for theatre for young people of the highest artistic and educational qualit. Arc's work is recognised as cutting edge and is highly regarded, particularly in the fields of education and criminal justice. This track record enables the company to build dynamic new partnerships across private, statutory and voluntary sectors. Arc initiates and responds to themes, and concerns which resonate at the heart of society, with particular reference to the experience of young people. Most of these relate to inequalities, economic and social disadvantage and youth violence.During my time at Arc as well directing most of Arc's plays by Clifford Oliver I was privileged to lead our development, including securing a £3 million sponsorship from HSBC in the late nineties, a commercial contract of £650,000 with BT, broadening our international profile with such partners as the British Council and securing our studios at the Malthouse in 2008. My final piece of work at Arc was the successful bid for funding of £179,000 for the company to deliver a strategic 'Leadership Through The Arts' programme for young women. Show less I co-founded Arc Theatre in 1984. The company had two strands at the outset - solo storytelling and solo theatre performance, I made my first theatre piece FALLEN under the new Arc banner with Polly Teale ( Writer) and Julia Bardsley ( Director). I performed my solo piece at the Edinburgh Festival in 1986 and won a Fringe First, which then led to a London run of the play at the Drill Hall Arts Centre and a National tour to small and middle scale theatre venues This early success put Arc ( the partnership) on the map. Meantwhile Clifford Oliver's highly successful Oliver's Tales was booming around the country and on Radio. Show less
