While previously thought of as ethereal, the feeling and space of home are too important to continue to allow their creation be left to chance. Research, both empirical and otherwise has granted us knowledge of how individuals communicate with spaces, and we are thus able to create spaces which will be more in tune with our entire being. It is our responsibility to use this knowledge to the benefit of our clients and the credibility of the architectural profession. Show less

    • BBB Architects Toronto Inc.

      Aug 2012 - Aug 2014
      Senior Designer

At BBB I led a team that was focused on conceptual design and new business development. I directed the design of multiple projects with overlapping staffing and deadline requirements.Projects included the Commercial, Residential and Sports and Recreation sectors. Major projects include an exclusive mid-rise residential development in Toronto, the redevelopment of the Regent Park South ice rink and park, and a master plan for a vacation development on the Black Sea. One of my goals was to foster the design culture within the office. I initiated a new "Design Review" series wherein project leaders present their projects to the office for an informal critique. I also advocated for the firm to enter design competitions (such as our entry to Detroit by Design) as a way of expanding and enhancing our design thinking. Show less

The program for the student housing includes a diverse range of unit types and amenities that is clearly expressed throughout the design. Amenity components are gathered at grade and strategically dispersed through the building, thereby extending the public program of the residence to the street level life of the campus. The building elevations are carefully considered and resolved in a Mondrian-like grid with a handsome composition of glazing, paneling and masonry that conveys a strong sense of residential scale and institutional ambition. The use of materials is carefully handled, with keen attention to detail for the exterior building volumes, as well as for the robust interior spaces. Show less

In contrast, the “prospect” wing is a group-oriented living environment, smaller units supported with generous common shared spaces. This activity is expressed architecturally with an activated façade and playful window pattern bringing activity to the Greenway pedestrian street.Units vary from bachelors suites to two storey, two bedroom lofts; some with generous private study/living space and others with minimal, but access to shared spaces. These units respond to the diversity of graduate students needs both in lifestyle and financial needs. Show less
