I investigated the potential therapeutic benefit of activated protein C mutants in the treatment of inflammatory conditions. This work was conducted under the supervision of Assoc Prof Albert Smolenski in the UCD School of Medicine. This PhD was awarded in December 2019.

      UCD Students' Union is the sole representative body of the 33,000 students in Ireland’s largest University. The role of the VP for Education is a full-time elected sabbatical role responsible for ensuring high standards of teaching & learning within the University. It also acts as a peer support service for students. - Member of the UCD Governing Authority, Academic Council and many other UniversityCommittees- Introduced the Student Fee Payment plan for UCD which was accepted and implemented inJanuary 2013.- Established the Science Internship Scheme for UCD College of Science which was acceptedand implemented in February 2013.- Established the UCD Leaving Certificate Library Scheme which generated income for UCDLibrary as well as aiding with the University’s student recruitment plan.- Wrote an efficiency plan for the University Library that was accepted and campaigned forlonger opening hours - resulting in maintaining the longest opening hours in the Country andSunday opening hours secured on a four year term.- Dealt with over 3000 unique personal cases from students ranging from academic concernsto financial difficulties.- Collaborated with UCD Careers Office to establish “Internship Focus 2013” which promotedemployability skills to students and advice and workshops on finding internships.- Worked with University units such as Registry, Teaching & Learning and Careers Office on adaily basis. The T&L team adopts an evidence-based approach to all aspects of its work, which includes: design, implementation and evaluation of strategic enhancement projects; the provision of a range of learning opportunities for staff; resource development; and recognition and award schemes.- Worked with Buildings & Services Department to create an online resource for staff to provide information on teaching spaces available and how they can be best utilised.- Worked with UCD Registry on the 2014/2015 Student Guide communication strategy, focusing on the academic section for students including best practice and also UCD regulations.       Children and young people, their families and the public are the key stakeholders in clinical research and involving them in clinical trial design, conduct and dissemination will ensure their opinions influence the landscape of trials activity and furthermore, will empower them to drive the future research agenda.In this role, I am responsible for coordinating PPI activities for CHI and In4kids, developing PPI strategy and frameworks to promote engagement at all levels, setting-up of a new national Young Patient Advisory Group (YPAG) and Parent/Carer Research Forum, in collaboration with the international peer YPAG network. I am the lead on PPI education and outreach, including development and delivery of PPI training and coordinating PPI communications and carry out an important communications support role for CHI in terms of the promotion of clinical trial activity internally and externally.
