Four beautiful proud African American females including Dr. Ada Markita Fisher decided to come together so that ALL African American students could have one united, understood voice. At a time when only ten percent of the UNCG population was African American, they choose to work together for equality on campus. After many sit-ins, riots, and much controversy the Neo Black Society, the Office of Multicultural Affiars, and later the African American Studies program was created. At its creation, two entities existed: the Dance Troupe and the Drama Troupe. There were fourteen entities: five performing entities focusing on educational through the arts, five standing entities focusing on cultural education, and four entities focusing on the well-being of the organization. Under the same principles of education, unity, cultural appreciation, and love we strive to uphold the ideals of our founders and today we stand as the NEO BLACK SOCIETY. Show less
