(Mombasa)The project was periodic maintenance and entailed recarpeting of the existingbituminous wearing course at 1st Avenue Road in Nyali Mombasa, Installation ofdrainage on some sections and road marking on both 1st Avenue and Mount KenyaRoads. As a Roads Inspector reported to the Assistant Resident Engineer. The totalContract sum was Ksh. 17,482,124.70.In my role as a Roads Inspector:* Act as the liaison between the contractor and the engineer.* Assisting with the road design and drafting.* Ensure Materials testing and sampling are done on time.* Inspecting road maintenance and construction works.* Identifying defects and making reports for improvement.* Carrying out regular road inspections and recommending maintenance activitieswhere necessary.* Assisting in data collection on tender document preparation.* Performing any other duties as assigned by the engineer. The Project involvedUpgrading the existing carriageway from gravel surface to bitumen standard as well as installation of the box culvert with drainage and the walkway. I was directlyreporting to the Assistant Resident Engineer. The total project cost was Ksh.86,373,936.40. Contract No.: LOT28/KURA/RMLF/COR/241/2017-2018.My role as the Roads Inspector included:* Assisting the Engineer in day-to-day coordination of site activities.* Keeping daily site progress reports, taking progress photos, preparation of dailysite progress reports and other records.* Coordinating with the materials department to ensure quality assurance controlprocedures are adhered to.* Assisting with the design of road and drainage works.* Interpreting the design and works procedures to the contractor's team on theground.* Undertaking of joint measurements of works done for the purpose of payment certification to the contractor. They involve both routine andperiodic maintenance on roads around the Voi town area.
