During the course I worked in an architectural practice 4 days a week in Norwich where I resided; and attended London Southbank University 1 day a week to study and meet tutors. During these 3 years I had to manage my time at work, ensuring productivity; against time required to finish my University work to the stringently high standards which my tutors pushed us to Achieve. • Purcell

      Jul 2008 - now

I joined Purcell as an Architectural Assistant in Norwich in 2008 and in this time, has worked on a huge variety of projects both locally in Norfolk and across the practice. As an experienced and accredited conservation Architect, Oli has developed a strong and valuable relationship with my client base, such as the National Trust, with projects including Felbrigg Hall, Oxburgh Hall and the Blickling Estate. The diversity of my experience is demonstrated across my work on 20th-century buildings within the higher education sector, working on key projects for the University of East Anglia as well as the University of Essex. I have developed a high level of expertise in conservation, design and architecture and matched this with an aptitude for communication and a focus on client service and project delivery. Show less Whilst I completed my course in 2014 registering as an Architect; I have been continuously employed by Purcell in progressive roles since 2008. I have completed all courses since my undergraduate on a part-time basis, working a minimum of 4 days whilst studying. This allowed me to reinforced my university knowledge base with office based experience. I felt this particularly important as there are lessons learnt in the office which cannot be taught in a university environment; and vice versa.Through my project work, I have developed a strong set of skills in technical construction detailing, and of running projects at both design and construction stages. I am interested in developing sensitive solutions, which are appropriate to the site conditions and client aspirations.I have been involved in the bidding for work on a tender and PQQ basis as an individual company as well as leading a bid team and as part of a single point delivery team. I have also written fee proposals and letters of appointment to clients where I have negotiated the fee and terms of the agreement.Over the course of my employment, I have developed an experience of both traditional procurement as well as Design and Build. I appreciate the differences between the two procurement methods and the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches. I also have experience in working a different team scales, from a sole consultant to small architect lead teams, up to large single point contractor lead teams.Throughout my career, I have been fortunate that Purcell has allowed me to work on many important listed and historic structures across the country. This has unlocked the opportunity for me to accrue experience on new and existing buildings across many sectors, including Residential, Cultural, Education, Healthcare, Hospitality, Workplace, Places of Worship. Show less After receiving my Part II qualification, I continued working with Purcell as a Part II Architectural Assistant, providing support to RIBA Architects in a RIBA chartered practice.I also began to work on projects independently, delivering architectural services under the supervision of an associate. This again allowed me to develop skills which I had previously not been able to gain as a Part I.I began my Part III courses the September following my Part II qualification. This course was again undertaken part-time whilst working full time. This course required me to attend bi-monthly study day on a Friday and Saturday. The course ran over a year period where I completed all my written exams and course work.I elected to delay my final interview by 6 months to complete and log my case study project. This was to ensure that I had enough experience across all stages of the RIBA work stages. I passed my interview on the first sitting, achieving Part III allowing me to register with the ARB and RIBA as an Architect. Show less I worked as a Part I Architectural Assistant, providing support to RIBA Chartered Architects in a RIBA Chartered Practice.I undertook quarterly logbooks and reflections on projects and performance over a year, following achieving a BA Architecture (Part I) from Lincoln University. This allowed me to apply for a BA Architecture (Part II) course.Once I recorded a years’ worth of logbooks, I studied my Part II course, Part-Time over a three-year period. This allowed me to continue working in practice and gain precious experience of working on projects in a commercial office environment. I had to balance a four-day work week, against evening and weekend work to achieve my BA Architecture (Part II) from Southbank University, London. Show less
