  I participated in my first clinical rotation as a sonography student at Heartland Regional Medical Center between June and August of 2017. I gained experience while observing, assisting, and performing a total of 481 sonographic examinations. This includes abdominal exams, obstetrics/gynecologic exams, and vascular. I completed 252 clinical hours. My duties included prepping rooms, performing exams, patient documentation, patient care, sterile procedures, and following hospital policy in regards to patient/employee safety, as well as HIPAA.   Memorial Hospital of Carbondale

  I completed my second clinical rotation at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. I was able to gain experience in abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and ultrasound-guided procedures. MHC provided a continuous flow of patients, allowing me to better myself as a sonographer every day. I completed 464 clinical hours, and more than doubled my number of examinations compared to my experience at Heartland Regional Medical Center. My duties at MHC included patient care, assisting in sterile procedures, navigating their PACS, performing examinations, and working with a team of sonographers. Show less

  Springfield Memorial Medical Center

  Springfield MMC allowed me to gain experience in abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and many ultrasound-guided sterile procedures. As a 500+ bed facility, MMC provided a platform for me to better myself as a sonographer with its constant flow of outpatient, inpatient, and emergency exams. At MMC, I gained the most experience in physician-guided sterile procedures than any other clinic site I had been to.

  SIU School of Medicine in OB/GYN

  While participating in clinicals in Springfield, Illinois, I spent time each week at SIU School of Medicine for OB/GYN. At this Maternal Fetal Medicine facility, I was able to directly work with both sonographers and physicians specializing in a variety of obstetric exams. Here I was able to learn and perfect the skills needed to complete a detailed OB anatomy scan in a timely matter, as well as gain experience assisting in physician-guided obstetric procedures.

  St. Vincent Randolph Hospital is proud to be a part of Ascension Health, one of the leading Catholic, non-profit health systems in the U.S. We are a JCAHO-accredited critical access hospital, that also provides our patients with long-term acute care. I am grateful to be a contributing member of our ACR accredited imaging department here at St. Vincent Randolph. Within the imaging department, we perform a variety of ultrasounds including Abdomen/Small Parts, OB/GYN, Breast, Vascular, as well as physician-guided procedures. With a steady flow of outpatients, inpatients, and emergency exams, I have gained exceptional skills in prioritizing and managing an efficient work flow, while maintaining attention to detail.
