      Sabbatical

An unplanned sabbatical to attend to personal injury may feel like the end of the world, but it is not! Upholding my "Always a Student" mentality, I dedicated myself to staying educated in the Social Work field. Familiarizing myself with newly published journal articles and research studies, revisiting readings in my personal Social Work library, and interfacing daily with professionals in the field became my in-home classroom. I was able to exercise these teachings and my love for social justice through the voluntary creation of the "Unite For Right: Community in Unity" rally. This rally arose from hearing so many friends and family in the community talk about how the unjust shootings of unarmed black lives AND unjust retaliation on innocent police lives was creating extreme physical, mental, and emotional anguish. Thus, this rally served to provide a safe space and venue for community members to come together in the spirit of asking "how are you doing?" and an avenue to collectively release some of that pain. It also served as a way to get to know our diverse neighbors, hear and LISTEN to each other, acknowledge the pain, and have discussions on how to move forward as a community. I also gained a more extensive knowledge on navigating the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security Services so that I can be of service to a greater demographic of clients upon returning to the workforce. Additionally, I contracted as a temporary Program Manager for a Child and Family Events organization to make sure that I had not lost my sharp interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills. Thankfully, they were still intact!Lastly, I spent time exploring my personal creative passions through providing vocals and instrumentals for national and international marketing initiatives (AffinityFCU, LG commercials + HitRECord) and songwriting consultations with various performing artists.
