  I was the manager of the then largest community corrections (probation) office in the province - with 12 staff. I was promoted to become the Assistant Deputy Director, and then the Deputy Director of Programs at the Edmonton Remand Center. I was responsible for supervising up to 100 staff and volunteers, including a 12 bed in-patient medical and psychiatry 24/7 hospital, physicians and physician specialists, dentists, registered nurses, psychologists, social workers, classification officers and other professional staff.   As a member of Alberta Correctional Services' Senior Management Committee, I led a team of two dozen staff with responsibility for information technology, finance, human resources, policies and procedures, and other management areas.

  Project Director (Senior Manager) Ambulance Services Act

  On a senior management secondment to Alberta Health, I conducted all of the policy and research, consulted throughout the province for three years, and with Legislative Counsel, prepared the Ambulance Services Act and four Regulations. This legislation, the first of its kind in Alberta, was passed in 1990.

  Directed the Branch through a strategic planning process in 1994 to address the urgent need for increased levels of service in Alberta's 180,000 air and ground ambulance trips per year. My team and I received the Premier's Award of Excellence in 1996, the second year this honour was awarded. I contributed to early health system reform in Alberta, by supporting regionalization initiatives and introducing pilot projects for physician alternative payment plans throughout the province.

  I led a team of clinicians and supervisors at the Workers' Compensation Board Rehabilitation Center in Edmonton to a three year accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, with almost perfect results.I managed 85 clinical staff - physicians, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, kinesiologists, etc.I also gained the status of an approved accreditation surveyor with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, based in Tucson, Arizona. I was the Lead Surveyor on several dozen accreditation surveys of rehabilitation facilities throughout the United States. Show less
