  Control System Design Intern

  During my internship , I worked on :1) Design and Development of control logics for Steam Turbine & Auxiliary (IDP).In this, the problem's were,i) Manual error in logics,ii) No.s of I/O 's , leading to problem during long distance linkages with ACS(Advanced Control System).Hence, I removed these problem's by using a software of Siemens and increased the efficiency of work flow as error's and I/O's were reduced.2) Replacement of SS-316 control/manual valve's by PP(polypropylene) based valve's in the lube oil system of Steam Turbine's ,hence cost & efficiency improved. (in process)3) Understood the GA(General Arrangement Drawing's of TSP & TCC) & hence the construction of the control panel's :TCC(Turbine Cubicle Control) &TSP(Turbine Supervisory Panel) at Dresser-Rand- A Simens Business.Also learned that how power distribution is done in panel's and how cable's are laid in any panel+space management.4) Learned the manufacturing + assembly of Multi-stage ( maximum of 96) Steam Turbine SST-200,SST-300,SST-600 and Condenser'sas well, learned the assembly of Steam Turbine of Dresser-Rand (Low capacity).Learned the assembly of packed SST (which includes entire lube oil system i.e. oil coolers, oil filters, oil tank, pumps,gear box,etc.)5) Learned the designing of p&id's of entire Steam Turbine's loop (Gland seal system, lube oil system, steam path flow system, turbine critical trip system for both -consumer & Siemens scope).6) Construction + assembly of ESV's(Emergency Stop Valve) & Hydraulic Servo Motor.7) Understood all the mechanical process's like :Forging, machining,casting, different types of welding (when & which to use) and balancing of low & high speed Steam Turbine by using Bode & Polar Plot.8)Did inspection & troubleshooting of : VMS(Vibration Monitoring System)OSPS(Over Speed Protection System)TGB(Turbine Governor Box)Analog I/O'sDigital I/O's in the TCC (Turbine Cubicle Control) panel by linking it with Simens WinCC .   I was sent from Siemens India during my IDP over there to learn the panel construction, desgining, testing and implementation.I learned following aspects in detail :1) Cabling in panels2) Space management in the control panel3) Engineering behind the power distribution done in the panels, i.e. how and where to use 230VAC, 110 VDC, 24VDC, and to operate all the appliances in the panel.4) Testing of the cables laid down in the panel by making a live loop using the Bentley Nevada system and Woodward's as well.5) Debugging of the cabling done and finding the solution of it by linking it with Siemens WinCC.
