Jun 2023 - Aug 2023Legislative InternOver the course of 12 weeks, I provided support to the Florida Risings Research and Policy Team in the development of policy research on a range of topics. These topics included climate change, resilience, emergency management, LGBTQ+ issues, and intersectional inequality like poverty, homelessness, health, and displacement. Some of my tasks consisted of tracing government emergency management procedures during climate disasters, identifying possible services and aid programs for disaster victims, secondary demographical data collection, and developing disaster and climate resilience policy recommendations. The two biggest achievements were supporting the creation of Florida Rising Hurricane Policy Recommendations for 2023 and an independent policy research paper titled Older, Queer, and Left Outside. In both papers, there is an insightful exploration of inequality in the state of Florida and the deficiencies of current policy. Show less

Additionally, I was approved and certified as a vehicular safety guide and driver for government (USA-GSA) vehicles, ensuring safe transportation for my team. Throughout this 8-week program, I cohabited with a diverse team of 10 individuals from across the country, fostering understanding, endurance, accountability, professionalism, and intercultural exchange.
