      Technical Support Engineer

      I officially started my career with a company call Digital Networking Solutions (DNS). Shortly thereafter this company was acquired by Dimension Data.I started at the bottom of the ranks and mostly supported end users through desktop support. In due course I learned to support Windows Server infrastructure, the OS and then hardware that it was deployed on. This provided me with exposure to most of the common brands at the time, such as IBM, Digital, Compaq and then Hewlett-Packard.I had the privilege of completing a number of courses whilst with Dimension Data, one of which was my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.At a point in time I was placed onsite with one of their clients as the senior server engineer and where I had to look after the Windows Server install base (DC’s, Exchange, File Servers, Web Servers, etc), the entire LAN and WAN environment, Backups and any 3rd line desktop support escalations. I did this for 4 years after which I went back to the Dimension Data fold and started a new chapter in Firewalling.With Dimension Data Security I was exposed to the various components within the security stack, I very quickly became skilled in Checkpoint Firewall’s, Cisco PIX and ASA’s and Cisco VPN Concentrators to name but a few of the more prominent products.Job Requirements:• Respond to ad hoc customer support calls and complete them within Service Level Agreement times.• Perform weekly/monthly reports for customers with maintenance contracts• Perform security reviews and advise customers on potential remedial actions• Keep abreast with current events, trends and new products in the various department I had worked (Desktop, x86 servers, Firewalling)• Deployment server, storage and other hardware and maintain as required. • Act as a company representative whilst being an onsite support engineer at a client’s premises.
