  Plastic Injection Moulding Engineering Technician

  Initially I had been working under the guidance of an experienced technician, however as I gained more experience I performed more duties single-handed. My main responsibilities were to safely carry out tooling changes, ensuring tooling cores and tooling water circuits are correctly operational. Perform insert changes, involving stripping tools down to change inserts on the moving half and locate a corresponding fixed half before setting the tool into a moulding machine.Set up machines for operators to use and troubleshoot issues operators might incur (eg. Short shots or a machine alarm out). Fault find the hydraulic and pneumatic systems of injection moulding machines, and to implement fixes to issues I may find. To perform colour changes and purge the machines injection unit barrel with minimal waste. To fault-find and program basic steps into a handling device/robot using either a Euromap 12 or a Euromap 67 interface. I was tasked with trialing several new tools with various materials, taking sample parts and writing a report including the machine settings, the process, and any additional information such as hot runner/sprue bush temperatures or mould heater temperatures. This significantly developed my understanding of processing injection moulding machines.I assisted in the decommissioning and removal of an injection moulding machine with an integrated robot from the factory.I also provided cover for the service operator (material controller) role for a number of weeks which involved mixing varying percentages of master batch to natural plastics then loading these into the machines, setting dosing units, cleaning hopper loaders during colour changes, cleaning material driers and setting material driers up correctly.   The role involves processing various engineering polymers including, but not limited to, Flame Retardant ABS (AF366), PC+ABS, PA6/PA66/Glass-Fill PA6, PBT, PPS, PPSU and POM (Acetal). My main responsibilities are to safely perform tooling changes, ensuring any tooling cores, gate valves, mould heaters, and tooling water circuits are correctly operational. Safely perform insert changes, involving removing and replacing an insert on the fixed half and a corresponding moving half insert and ejection plate before setting the tool into a moulding machine.Set up machines for operators to use and troubleshoot issues operators might incur (eg. Short shots, flash, or a machine alarm out). Program basic steps into a handling device/robot using either a Euromap 12 or Euromap 67 interface. Perform colour changes and purge the machines injection unit barrel with minimal waste, and effectively use barrel cleaner when necessary. Prepare material for each job, cleaning and setting up material driers, cleaning hopper loaders, cleaning and setting dosing units to the correct percentage. Monitor quality, ensure any quality issues are rectified quickly, and support operators packaging parts when not undertaking other operations. Show less
