      Dec 2009 - Jun 2011
      Physics TA

In the physics tutorial lab, my job was to teach students about kinematic motion, electro-magnetism, relativity, and more.As a personal assistant to Dr. Brett Hess, I also wrote exams for physics courses and helped students understand the material.

    • Blendtec

      Aug 2011 - Sept 2013
      Engineering Technician

Blendtec is a world-wide creator of kitchen appliances, famously known for their viral will-it-blend videos (www.blendtec.com/company/about).My primary goal at Blendtec was to create a "user-centered" focus for every process and product with which our workers and customers interacted.Using Solid Works, I created new concept assembly lines, machinery, and tools. I helped create the start-to-finish process for manufacturing the Total Blender Designer Series, the most user-friendly commercial blender on the market. My work resulted in a more ergonomic environment for our workers and a significant decrease in required man hours per unit produced (nearly 35%).I also lead an analysis project in order to pin-point flaws in the balance of our motor armatures. I designed and manufactured a motor-balancing system that identified several critical balance areas. This information was key in reducing part rejection across several product lines. My work also extended to assisting with the analysis and design of many current Blendtec products, leading to greater user-experience and overall quality. Sept 2013 - Apr 2015
Graduate Research Assistant - Design Exploration Research Group

Every year billions of dollars are spent redesigning outdated products. It's impossible to know exactly how technologies and customer needs will change over time. But products that are flexible can adapt to meet whatever new design conditions arise. My research focuses on developing new metrics for product flexibility. I use these metrics to optimize the product design process to meet tomorrow's needs as much as today's.

    • Rocketship, Inc.

      Apr 2014 - Dec 2014
      Mechanical Designer

Rocketship, Inc. is a design firm specializing in industrial and mechanical design. As a mechanical designer, I assisted in the development of more than a dozen products intended for use in the medical, consumer goods, and consumer electronics industries. The majority of my work focused on taking rough concepts through all stages of development up to production-ready drawings. Using Solid Works I modeled electrical and mechanical components for use in injection molding, casting, thermoforming, stamping, and machining. I also analyzed the structural performance of many designs.Apart from general mechanical engineering, I also participated in concept ideation and evaluation. Many of our clients are interested in industrial design. I was able to assist in product launch meetings and concept generation activities that were the genesis of several projects. In preparation for prototyping and production, my responsibilities also included generation of documents (i.e. Bill of Materials, schematics, etc.) for use in manufacturing.
