Planned and facilitated a large-scale event, called ‘AB Volunteer Day,’ in which all of our members (about 150) were assigned to work at a non-profit organization based in Grand Rapids (e.g., The Humane Society, YWCA, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and The Healthy Homes Coalition, among others) for a day. Hosted a Volunteer Fair for local NGO’s and student organizations at AB’s end-of-the-year event (including Teach for America, The Red Cross, Amnesty International, etc.) Responsible for site leader training and leadership, including training effective facilitation of civic reflection and teaching the dynamics and utility of the Active Citizen Continuum to help site leaders and participants understand their place on it and move toward becoming an active citizen.   Served for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in an early-generation program to support secondary education development in Indonesia. Worked alongside Indonesian counterparts teaching English as a foreign language for 10th and 11th grade students at a vocational high school in a remote, rural region. Secondary projects included teacher training, educational resource development, private English tutoring for all ages, and coordination of extracurricular student activities (e.g., running club, Indonesian Girls Leading Our World, English club)- Taught 10 English high school classes (about 330 students) over the course of four semesters.- Co-facilitated the high school English Club.- Facilitated weekly meetings for English teachers to plan lessons, share resources and train English teachers on various instructional methods and tools.- Contributed to the development of English teaching and learning resources including creating lesson plans and editing a Listening Resource Packet- Wrote and published an English workbook for the 10th grade.- Collaborated with Indonesian counterparts and other Peace Corps Volunteers to plan and implement a girls empowerment camp for 75 underprivileged middle and high school students from three districts of East Java.- Engaged in continuous cross-cultural exchange including publishing stories and photos on a personal blog and giving presentations about American and Indonesian culture, English education, etc. at schools and colleges.
