      David was a teacher at Cardinal Wiseman School in Ealing for over 35 years, joining as Head of Careers and teaching English, History and Sociology.He developed a curriculum area that spanned Personal, Social & Health Education, Citizenship, Careers and Work ExperienceIn 1999, his School attracted international media attention when David began to use “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” style keypads as part of his delivery of PSHE lessons. Awarded an Honorary Fellowship at the University of West London in 2005 for promoting the hospitality industry, David encouraged over 300 young people to become Junior Chefs – many of whom progressed to careers as chefs or front of house staff across London. In 2007 David ensured a place for his school in the forefront of food and catering education nationally by developing a hospitality suite, comprising an industry standard training kitchen and restaurant, with the support of the Savoy Educational Trust and the Edge Foundation.His students cooked with a host of famous chefs including Raymond Blanc, Gary Rhodes, Cyrus Todiwala, Richard Shepherd and Brian Turner.In 2006 David was co-opted to serve on the National Steering Committee of FutureChef, an industry led programme of activities that supports the delivery of Food Studies in over 600 secondary schools across the UK.       Researcher and Oral Historian

      Whilst campaigning to name a new development after William Poupart, whose world famous jam factory was located in Third Cross Road, he became aware of an Environmental Trust initiative – Jam Yesterday, Jam Tomorrow – and volunteered as a researcher and oral historian.As well as interviewing people who worked in the jam factory or in local market gardens and nurseries his research contributed to a “Feeding London” exhibition developed by the “Jam” project team.The exhibition appeared at the Museum of Richmond and Kew Gardens Library in 2015, before moving to the Guildhall Library in the City in the spring of 2016.The Kempton Steam Museum, home to the world's largest working triple expansion engine, proved a popular setting for the exhibition on three occasions in the autumn of 2016. David is currently researching the Hampton Nurserylands and the market gardens around Feltham. Show less

      The Trust is responsible for The Kempton Steam Museum at Kempton Park Pumping Station.The Museum is the home of the world's largest working triple expansion steam pumping engine, which weighs over 1000 tons and is over 62 ft high. Its twin is on static display in the engine house, which is a listed Ancient Monument. Between 1927 and 1980, when the engines were decommissioned, each ran continuously 24/7 pumping a total of 38 million gallons of fresh water daily to North London.
