This virus is responsible for COVID-19 disease, a systemic infectionbased on the wide-ranging clinical signs.The scientific society has made an incredible effort to generate new therapeutics to treatand prevent the infection with SARS-CoV-2, but the expenses behind it and the need for atreatment right away has led to a rush to repurposing approved drugs already on the market.In this paper we can find the existing literature regarding the SARS-CoV-2 virus, existingtherapies, and emerging ones for COVID-19, with a focusing on clinical trials so far conductedregarding possible efficacy of fluvoxamine, an SSRI and potent sigma-1 agonist, in the treatmentfor COVID-19 and likely mechanism of action behind it.
