  Track Engineering Apprentice

  Entry into Network Rail via Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme to gain an indepth technical understanding of railway maintenance. This included gaining non-railway specific qualifications to BTEC National Certificate level, PEO Engineering and NVQ level 3 in various areas including mechanical engineering, technical drawing, mechanical manufacture and mathematics for engineers top name a few. After the first year of core development, the remainder of the scheme was spent at a locally assigned depot for further development, with regular technical training delivered through residential courses at HMS Sultan. Mentorship to ensure adequate competence was given through the depot and delivery unit prior to being able to undertake safety critical and track engineering competences alone. Show less

  Return from Reading Project Management Secondment - Giving a level of compliance through audit and assurance checks to provide the client with the suitable action plans to ensure a right time, safe, on budget delivery. Doing this through review of documentation and construction plans and aligning them to the correct regulations for compliance.Additionally, the management of the Rail Vac system and its deployment on the delivery unit to assist with removing track bed defects (wet beds, contaminated ballast) and the reinstatement of track geometry. This included the planning of all aspects of H&S in preparedness for the works, base line design information and intended increases/decreases to line and level, resourcing of materials and staff to undertake the works, delivery of the works through on site management and associated reporting, and project close out through financial reporting, project review and documenting a lessons learnt forum. Other involvement within the role was during development and implementation of the Route CDM2015 plan and how they were to discharge their legal duties from within the regulation. Duties included financial forecasting, financial reporting, contractor management, contract management, contract negotiation, real time progress reporting, preparation of periodic reports to update differing stakeholder groups as to the progress of the works, negotiating with landowners to allow the project access to their land, dealing with local authorities to ensure we include their requirements within the project within the constraints of cost, project close out.
