  • Experience

    • L.E. Peabody & Associates, Inc.

      Jun 2009 - Aug 2009
      Intern

Researched, compiled, and verified economic data on coal shipments throughout the United States and related tasks for economic consulting and litigation support.

    • Brown University

      Jun 2010 - Apr 2011
      Research Assistant

Worked in a molecular beam epitaxy lab as part of ongoing undergraduate research on graphene growth. Designed electromagnet and cooling system to assist in this project; analyzed crystal samples in electron microscope and characterized them. Designed process flow to make new type of graphene-based transistor.

    • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

      Aug 2012 - May 2014
      Graduate Student Research Assistant

Completed a master's thesis on highly doped semiconductors for plasmonics applications, with special attention to 'flat gratings' and the theory and simulation of guided surface plasmon polaritons in COMSOL. Fabricated highly doped semiconductor microstructures in a class 1000 / class 100 cleanroom on a regular basis, using tools such as: Plasma reactive ion etching (RIE), inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) RIE, doping furnace, photolithography spinners and aligners, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), metal evaporation, and wet chemical etching. Analyzed resulting samples using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, surface profiling, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Show less
