It has around 30,000 employees across 50 countries, 112 production plants and 25 Research and Development centres.- Responsible for the development of flexible pipes and umbilical cables used in oil & gas production at Prysmian’s raw materials R&D department. Flexible Pipes: - Took part in the development of 2, 4 and 6-inches flexible pipes used in offshore oil extraction. Layers included: polymers, steel, resins and tapes and their specifications varied according to depth of oil extraction point (1000 – 6000 metres) and oil temperature operation (60 to 140 degrees). - Responsible for the development of polymeric and steel raw materials that met application parameters set by the project team.Umbilical Cables:- Developed copper, gold and silver raw materials used in umbilical cables. Subsea umbilicals cables were deployed on the seabed to supply necessary control and energy to subsea oil wells,R&D process:- Engaged with clients’ approved suppliers to develop samples. - Conducted physical and chemical application testing of the sample in laboratory (characteristics tested included fluidity, strength, stretch and corrosion, density, viscosity and ageing). - Interpreted and evaluated the properties and test results. - When a material met parameters set by the project team, Prysmian developed a prototype sample internally to undergo small-scale mechanical properties testing, including product failure data after destructive/non-destructive testing to establish root cause in the laboratory.   Responsible for water management and equipment maintenance of existing water treatment plant until a new process could be implemented. Took part in a 5-person project at the Brukunga Pyrite Mine/SA. The project had two goals: 1. Propose an alternative water treatment method to the existing lime-based water treatment plant that produces safe non-drinking water for the community at lower costs;2. Propose treatment to sludge residue generated by the low-density sludge lime-based water treatment plant.Alternative water treatment method proposal:- Extensively researched articles and thesis of water treatment methods used in mining countries, such as Canada, Brazil and China to propose an alternative and a sustainable methodology.- Performed a range of geochemistry and laboratory testing of the acidic water. The tests revealed the water had high concentration levels of Iron, Aluminium, Manganese, Magnesium e Zinc – minerals that could be transformed into inorganic pigments and sold to the painting industry.- Concluded that if the water treatment changed from lime-based to selective precipitation, it would be able to separate and commercialise the minerals whilst still producing water PH>7 for agriculture. - Liaised with local paint manufacturers and worked out that pigment commercialization could recover 30-40% of the treatment plant costs.- Studied, designed and commissioned the infrastructure and equipment necessary for the implementation of alternative treatment.Low density sludge treatment proposal:- Conducted extensive mineralogy characterization analysis of the sludge through geoscience and laboratory techniques. - Identified chemical/mining engineering techniques that could transform low-density sludge into building materials.- Liaised with local building industry supply manufacturers and established that the low-density sludge could be used as raw material in their processes.
