      During the first year, my main project was running a health information network for managing inner-city tuberculosis including collaboration with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and the New York City Department of Health. This project won a National Information Infrastructure Award.My research included the use of the MedLee natural language processing tool to code radiology reports using Columbia University’s local clinical terminology MED (Medical Entities Dictionary) to identify tuberculosis patients. The resulting paper won the award for Best Paper on an Application at the AMIA Annual Fall Symposium.During the second year, my main project was the InterMed Collaboratory which was a collaborative effort among the Medical Informatics research groups at Stanford, Harvard and Columbia University. One key achievement of the project was GLIF – GuideLine Interchange Format – for representing computer-interpretable guidelines. Show less

I developed the first three-year SNOMED CT content development roadmap, and built positive working relationships with key member countries and collaborating organisations. I reorganised the content development team to make optimal use of scarce resources. My team launched a highly successful eLearning course which was immediately oversubscribed, leading to introducing newer and faster delivery methods.
