As a CMA, my primary concern is rooming each patient in a timely manner, and keeping the physicians on schedule. This process involves several nuanced responsibilities including prepping & cleaning the exam room, checking vitals, reviewing allergies & medications, and verifying the patients chief complaint and current questions. In addition assisting physicians during thyroid biopsies, Dexcom insertions, A1C's, upload and import meter downloads and insulin pumps, give injections, abstracting and scanning into charts and acquiring lab reports and test results. In coordination with these responsibilities I attentively assist physicians during thyroid biopsies, take A1C's, give injections, abstracting and scanning into charts, loads imaging into the PACs system, meter education and provides the physician with a comprehensive and efficient patient update prior to the exam. As a CMA, other responsibilities include autoclaving, maintaining & organizing stockrooms, ordering supplies from vendors, and scheduling shifts for MAs. Administrative responsibilities include answering phones, checking in patients, updating demographics, verifying insurance, collecting & processing payments, preparing deposits and scheduling follow-up appointments. Both CMA & front desk positions require a thorough knowledge of Epic EMR software. On a day-to-day basis documenting patient information, entering orders for PT, x-rays & medications, schedules appointments, and triage, all according to the standardized NorthShore protocol.
