The study was focused on finding interactions between melanoidins and various cations which then affect the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose and proteins. Also, the mechanism of inhibition of hydrolysis by melanoidins and metal was investigated. Ultra-filtration, a combination of ICP-MS and SEC-HPLC and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in the study. Show less

      A Bellmer TurboScreen was installed as a pre-treatment step at Schiphol East WWTP. The filter captures suspended matter, mainly cellulose which was meant to increase the hydraulic capacity of the current plant. I was responsible for checking the performance of the fine screen with daily analyses on inlet wastewater, filtrate, and sieved material from the fine screen. Also, I was responsible for evaluating the impact of fine screen installation on overall sludge production, MLSS concentrations in the aeration tank, aeration energy required for biological treatment, and nitrification-denitrification processes by theoretical calculations and observation of various online analysers.
