As a naturalist it was my goal to contact as many users as possible and generate a sense of awe regarding the Adirondack Park to help ensure a culture of conservation in the parks users. It was the naturalist’s goal to make the visitor’s first impression of the park both educational and memorable. As a Senior Naturalist my primary mission remained the same. However I was now tasked with helping train the other naturalists and keeping them motivated and effective throughout the busy summer season. Training consisted of leave not trace ethics, interpretative techniques and general education about the Adirondack Park’s natural history. I oversaw the daily activities of the other naturalists when the director of outreach and education was not around. Show less

      Field Technician

In the summer of 2010 I was hired by the Smithsonian to condense multiple camera trap studies into one format for use on the Smithsonian Wild website (http://siwild.si.edu/). Studies came from all over the world but mainly Africa, China and the United States. My main responsibility was the reorganization of thousands of pictures and their accompanying data. However several studies required photo identification as well.In 2011 I managed an online picture database and worked as a field tech for Dr. Roland Kays. I was also responsible for various lab work such as specimen preparation. I worked closely with Dr. Kays and his student Scott LaPoint as they studied fisher (Martes pennanti) in suburban environments and the importance of corridors to this animal. My responsibility was mainly to set, retrieve and analyze data from the 60 plus cameras used in LaPoint’s work. I was often required to work alone in backcountry locations using a GPS unit to navigate forests with no trail systems in order to set and retrieve cameras. Show less
