  My previous role involved leading a accounting team tasked with processing all accounts payable and receivable transactions and general ledger entries, tax preparation, and financial statement generation for 32 restaurants. I often performed tasks outside the normal scope of my responsibilities, such as working with insurance adjusters to investigate and report customer incidents, and overseeing the general ledgers, financial statements, and A/P & A/R for two Haljohn subsidiaries.I am extremely grateful to the late owner of the company for empowering me to have such a great impact on the company’s financials. Here are a few highlights of my contributions:• Improved the performances of all team members through hands-on training, coaching and mentoring.• Performed variance analyses on financial statements to identify P&L discrepancies, and subsequently suggested process improvements to increase operational efficiency.• Worked with a software development contractor to build a custom data import process to convert a paper-based payroll reporting process for up to 5,000 monthly checks into an automated data capture process that pulled payroll data directly from each restaurant’s individual accounting system, and enabled us to offer direct deposit.• Prepared and transmitted weekly money transfers out of satellite bank accounts to a central account to fund accounts payable activities, and generated weekly cash flow reports.• Filed all quarterly payroll tax forms and annual W-2s, paid monthly state taxes, responded to workers’ compensation claims, and performed court ordered payroll deductions.• Drafted proposals for fixed asset expenditures resulting in the modernization of all technology hardware, including the replacement of area supervisors’ laptops with tablets to enhance their mobility.• Reduced month end close turnaround times through implementation of improved data mapping & reporting methodology, and creating detailed merchandise and repair (M&R) reports.   I accepted a position in the construction industry due to my family’s history in the businesses. In my current role, I hold concurrent responsibilities for guiding home construction project planning and execution, subcontractor scheduling, quality assurance, and customer relationship management. As I’ve always done in previous roles, I continually evaluate existing processes to uncover operating deficiencies and cost reduction opportunities.
