  I interned with the Coconino County Health and Human Services Epidemiology team and the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program to address overdose fatality statistics in Coconino County. I worked with confidential health information (CHI) with appropriate HIPAA standards for the quarterly Overdose Fatality Review meetings. My duties included:- Analyzing overdose statistics and identifying overdose fatality trends between 2018-2022- Designing figures that illustrate those trends in an appropriate, sensitive manner- Collaborating with the two programs to ensure that their needs were met for the figures in the Overdose Fatality Review Annual Report- Shadowing the lead county epidemiologist in overdose fatality review statistics analysis- Participating in the epidemiology meetings and data analyst meetings to discuss recent projects and disease trends in the county. In this position, I have had the opportunity to:- Create and distribute Narcan to the community- Provide community education about how to administer Narcan- Participate in community outreach for Narcan awareness and training- Teach about harm reduction- Reduce overdose risk and encourage protective behavior- Improve community attitudes and reduce stigma surrounding substance use disorders and overdose- Design educational materials about the link between alcohol and cancer- Participate in youth coalition meetings to prevent early tobacco and nicotine usage in high school.
