      Activities and Societies: Real life experience. Often heard about issues in the workplace which needed reform. Example: Well before OSHA came into being in 1971, Toms Father shared with him how some men could not understand why their wives were sick from substances in their work place when the wife had never been there? It was sad to hear about the shock men would have when learning the loved ones exposure was from doing their laundry... Force feed Safety from early childhood. Now in retrospect, I am very grateful to have had one of the best mentors in the safety world. Safety is a vocation I approach with a great deal of passion and experience. My father was a safety engineer, so growing up I heard and learned more about safety than I cared to!

Manteca, CA Safety coordinator for three structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication companies. Risk Management. Field Ironworkers safety coordinator for steel erection. Revised IIPP for each company. Wrote machine operators and shop safety handbooks for each company. Did annual Fremont fire department plans for the companies in Fremont. Wrote (AST) Spill Prevention, Countermeasures and Contingency plan.  Wrote vehicle safety program. Wrote pre-shift inspection log books for all field foremen. Wrote tailgate meeting topics applicable to the scope of work. Taught OSHA 10 hour course to all Field supervision.  Trained and certified shop and field personnel on powered industrial trucks. Pre-drug screened field employee’s on certain projects. Conducted pre-critical lift safety meetings. Conducted all shop safety meetings for each company. Did weekly safety inspections at each company. Weekly Job-site safety evaluations for field erection and construction. Liaison to all insurance carriers. Enforced all company safety policies. Brought Experience Mod Rate down significantly for the field erection division. He leads the implementation and continuous improvement of the Management System applicable to safety activities and risks, and is the primary person to train, coach and mentor operations leaders and safety professionals in the tools, programs and requirements of the Management System and safety programs.
